WEDDING BELLS PEELED – at the Free Union Church announcing the marriage of Allyson McCoy to Tony Hirsh on July 17. The bride walked down the aisle with her dad John McCoy in a magnificent white beaded sheath dress, Tony was elegant in a black tux. The best men were Tony’s sons Andrew and Phillip. HelenJane Gulian (Tony’s sister) was maid of honor. Mayor Natalie Rogers officiated and Virginia Horton was organist. The reception was at the Hirsh Seaview home. Guests sipped champagne and enjoyed calypso music on the deck before retiring into the house for a sit-down dinner (catered by Hideaway)…
MY BIG FAT FIRE ISLAND WEDDING – was this year’s party theme at the OBP Fire Department fundraiser. The place was decorated as a wedding hall with blow bubbles jars on the tables along with matches and stirrers from Pat and Mike Supple’s 1966 wedding. Fire Dept members wedding pictures graced the walls (Robbie & Tom Byrnes pic of their real FI wedding was a hoot. Barbara Placilla hasn’t changed – Steve looks better today). A very accommodating mainland town provided the firework display. By now you all know that OBP loves theme parties and goes all out in costume. This year was no exception. Rosemary Schneider’s 94 years young mom, Mary Gernert dressed in white, had a ball dispensing wedding favors (beautiful wrapped gifts Rosemary purchased). Lillian Laikind came as an illegitimate baby. Tom Byrnes crossdressed as “Mother of the Bride “ and could easily win the role in Hairspray. There were several very pregnant ladies on the way to shot gunweddings. In fact, the place was awash with brides, grooms, attendants and guests in lavish incredible retro outfits. Were clothes really that ugly years ago or did they shop at Goodwill? My vote for ugliest bride was hairy Mitch Lumagua in a blond wig and toga gown (Bonnie Errico was his groom) but Jordan Cohen, on the other hand, made a gorgeous bride. Mary Cummins wore my wedding dress from 38 years ago – when I was a size 10 for a day. Jeanne Lynch in pretty green tulle and a casually attired Peter Vogel were an eloping couple with “Just Married” across their rears. And on and on…
