WHAT HAPPENED — The Annual Fire Island Synagogue Summer Cocktail Party was held Saturday, July 31 at the home of Donna Thomases in Seaview. President Lisa Alter welcomed the over 100 guests and introduced the 2005 honorees Lynn and Wes Little who needed no introduction – Long time residents of Fire Island, Lynn and Wes (along with their three sons – Wes Jr. Scott and Jason) own and operate food markets in Seaview and Ocean Bay Park, always support all community events and are two of the nicest people on Fire Island… The First Annual Doug Gurian Classic was held Saturday August 7 (see separate story in this issue)…
The Inn-Between’s Annual Horseshoe Tournament was held Saturday, too. This year 17 two-man teams competed and the 2003 winners, Bernie Harris and Lou Deturis, took the trophy home again… A Pre-Party Party was hosted by Norma Raglin and Bernie Weil prior to the exodus from OBP to OB for the Circus theme Community Fund party. Bernie was a lion tamer, Norma a bareback rider and then there were roustabouts, carnival barkers, a pretty hootchy kootchy dancer, a Cirque de Soleil troupe and a mangy elephant herd with well-endowed bulls…
WHAT’S NEW — Carmen Vazquez’s second book, “Parenting with Pride Latino Style,” will be released August 18 and available at bookstores September 9. Carmen’s fall schedule includes TV appearances, book signings and the lecture circuit… “Let’s Cook,” a fundraiser for the Seaview Community fund is now available. Contact Barbara Meltser 583-5108…

WHAT’S HAPPENING — The Our Lady of the Magnificat Catholic Church Summer Raffle/Lunch/Bake Sale will be held on the rectory porch Friday August 13 at 12 noon. The Ocean Bay Park Gourmet Fair will be 12 noon Saturday August 14 at the Ocean Bay Park Firehouse. Food donations will be accepted from 10 a.m. – Venues start at 12 noon. Join us for “Lunch on the Bay” – burgers, dogs, salad and of course Alan’s yummy chili. Come early to buy gourmet food prepared OBP gourmet chefs, Citarella, Love and Quiches. Buy 50/50 tickets from Susan, Lewis and Scotty and place bids with Mary, Joyce Hunt and Robbie on over 50 items in the Silent Auction including a Movado watch, an original Beatles photo, signed 2001 Yankee pitchers baseball, theatre and sports tickets, a bike, a wagon, dinners at local restaurants and certificates from local services and stores.
