Barefoot and Wagons
Volume 49, Issue 6
By Sandy Drawers

Whew! After all the July Fourth parties and events I treated myself to a facial the other day. Anna, a professional esthetician, comes from Chelsea and is active in the Pines and Grove—where the skin is often glowing. So you know she does a great job! She saw immediately how thirsty my skin was and proceeded to hydrate it and massage my shoulders and face for over an hour. Call her for weekend appointments; she is great fun and your skin will thank you! (917) 535-7121.

Congratulations to Island Garden’s Tim Cottrell and Kathleen Higgins. Their ring was designed by Anni Beiderman at the Gallery in Ocean Beach.

Money for Flotsam

Kenny Goodman is offering money for beach finds. Large clean shells will get you 10 cents. Clean dry horseshoe crab tails will bring in 20 cents. And 25 cents will be paid for eroded beach bricks. One catch: you have to be a child to receive the dough. Bring to Kenny’s Gallery at 325 Denhoff.

The ongoing series of Tantra Cocktails in Summer Club got going Saturday night with a bang. It was not only simple and fun but also relaxing and energetic at the same time. Laurie Handlers has a beautiful, joyous way of introducing this ancient form of yoga. The yoga was non-postural, yet activated, balanced and cleared our bodies. As one participant said, “ What a perfect way to begin the evening.” Call her at 583-7159. Although it is a series, you can join any Saturday evening class.

Bringing culture to the beach, Diana Hein’s Summer Musicale was a success. With Michael Vannoni on viola, Richaed Hein on French Horn and Joshua Greene returning on piano, the audience enjoyed an evening of Bach, Brahms and Telemann.

Don’t forget about the Battle of the Bands coming up July 23 at 8 p.m. If you are or you know someone who is a secret rock star, sign him or her up. What do you have to loose? Call or see LOVE at 583-8866.

It’s here! The Golden Wagon Film Festival will take place from July 15–17. At the opening ceremonies at the ballfield at 7 p.m. on Friday, bring your own picnic basket dinner and buy your passes for the weekend. See our article about the festival in this issue or visit www.goldenwagonfilmfest.com for more information.

On July 16 at 10 a.m., catch up on the doings of Ocean Beach at the Trustees meeting at the boathouse.

On July 21, the Sandband is playing at the Gazebo for your listening pleasure. You can always enjoy them every other Sunday at CJ’s and every other Saturday at Schooners in Ocean Bay Park.
